Course & elevation

Cape Cod is a rolling coastal loop out of Falmouth, dipping past Woods Hole and tracing the shoreline before turning back inland. The rollers are constant rather than dramatic, with a couple of stiffer pitches in the back half that test legs already softened by the relentless up-and-down. The payoff is some of the prettiest ocean scenery in the Northeast.

Key moments

  • Mile 1–6Rolling shoreline out of Falmouth toward Woods Hole — start easy and learn the rhythm.
  • Mile 13–18Coastal rollers with ocean views; pace by effort and let the grade flex your pace.
  • Mile 20–24The stiffer back-half pitches where tired legs feel every climb — this is the test.

Pacing strategy

Pace by effort and let the rollers move your splits up and down rather than forcing an even number on every mile. Stay disciplined on the early descents so your quads have something left for the harder climbs after mile 20.

Fueling & hydration

Aid stations come roughly every two miles with water and sports drink. Fuel ahead of the climbs, not on them, and keep a steady 30–40 minute gel cadence through the constant rolling.

Weather

Late-October on the Cape is usually cool and crisp, though coastal wind off the water can add a chill and a challenge on exposed stretches.
